Heidi E. Kirsch, M.D.
Epileptologist


     Dr. Heidi Kirsch's clinical interests include the surgical management of epilepsy, brain mapping of cognitive function, and the effects of chronic epilepsy and its treatment on various aspects of cognition. Recruited from the Johns Hopkins Department of Neurology, Kirsch received the Epilepsy Foundation of America's William Gowers Clinical Research Fellowship in 2001. She is a member of the American Academy of Neurology and the American Epilepsy Society, and is board certified in neurology and clinical neurophysiology.

     An honors graduate of Harvard, where she studied biological anthropology, Kirsch received a master's degree in health and medical sciences as well as her medical degree from a joint program offered through the University of California at Berkeley and UCSF. She completed her internship at Georgetown University and her neurology residency at Johns Hopkins, where she also was a fellow in clinical neurophysiology, epilepsy and cognitive neurology. During her fellowship, she also was a special volunteer to the Cognitive Neuroscience Sections of the National Institutes of Health. She joined the staff of UCSF Medical Center in 2002 and is currently an assistant professor in residence in the UCSF Department of Neurology. Kirsch has also received a K23 grant from NIH/NINDS to study cognitive outcomes after epilepsy surgery.
